Saxophone

I am not sure what to say about the saxophone. It dominated my life for 15 years, especially the soprano, which I loved and which kicked my ass.  In this time I got to play with some great musicians, and had periods of study with two masters, Elton Dean and Steve Lacy. At some point, this work was done, and I got sick of blowing down it. Not that I think I was succeeding in winning victory over this instrument, more that at some point I realised that I never would, at least not to a level I would find satisfactory. In retrospect, I think many of the things I wanted to achieve with this instrument seem to be better suited to working with electronics. And trying to turn something that is not really an instrument into one, seems to be more suited to my temperament than finding my musical path with an instrument whose identity and purpose at that point in history and purpose already seemed to me to be very much defined by others.
